The More Things Change, The More They Stay the Same? Putting Recent Refinery Losses in Perspective - NOW OPEN FOR BOOKINGS

IN PERSON SPACES TO ATTEND AND ALSO AVAILABLE TO ATTEND VIRTUALLY ONLINE - Invite link will be sent to all registered attendees nearer to the time of the presentation itself after bookings have closed.

Speakers:

Chris Stephen (Inigo) and John Attridge (Liberty)

Presentation Synopsis:

Are refinery losses really getting worse, or are today's events part of a long-term cycle that the industry has seen before?

Drawing on more than 50 years of loss history and over 1,300 major refinery losses, the presentation examines the trends, causes and consequences of refinery incidents across the global oil refining sector. It explores how factors such as ageing assets, refinery complexity, corrosion, mechanical integrity failures, operational performance and business interruption have influenced loss outcomes over time. Challenging some common perceptions about recent loss activity, the session provides an evidence-based perspective on the drivers behind major refinery losses and highlights the lessons that remain as relevant today as they were decades ago, with suggested opportunities for the current risk engineering survey process to explore these findings in greater detail.
